METEOR peer mentoring research at Beyond Boundaries

The University of Verona participated in the Beyond Boundaries international conference, held on 3 July 2026 at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, where it presented research developed within the Horizon Europe METEOR project.

The presentation, titled “Beyond Disciplinary Boundaries: Opportunities and Challenges in International Peer Mentoring Groups within the METEOR Project”, focused on how doctoral candidates and early-career researchers experience interdisciplinary collaboration within METEOR Peer Mentoring Groups.

The contribution explored both the learning opportunities and the challenges that arise when researchers work across disciplinary perspectives, institutional contexts and research cultures. It addressed how Peer Mentoring Groups can support dialogue, mutual learning and the co-development of shared research ideas.

Interdisciplinary peer mentoring in practice

Peer Mentoring Groups are a central part of the METEOR implementation model. They provide a setting in which participants can move beyond individual training and engage in collaborative reflection, problem definition and proposal development.

The University of Verona presentation examined these processes from the perspective of interdisciplinary learning. It highlighted how working across disciplinary boundaries can create valuable opportunities for new forms of exchange, while also requiring openness, coordination and sustained engagement.

Strengthening doctoral education through collaboration

This work connects directly to METEOR’s objective of strengthening transversal competences among doctoral candidates and early-career researchers. By examining international peer mentoring in practice, the presentation contributed to a deeper understanding of how collaborative learning formats can support doctoral education.

The conference offered an opportunity to reflect on the value of interdisciplinary collaboration and to share METEOR experiences with an international academic audience.
